The Osterbeast

"Fear the Oster Blood. By the Gods, fear it, Luther."
- Master Commander Wilhelm

The Osterbeast, a monstrosity of unknown origin. This nightmarish beast shows signs of abrupt lycanthropy, but it is not simply a were-rabbit.. it is something much worse. Bones jut out of it's form all over - too many teeth line it's maw and it even has two extra pairs of eyes. It's chest has a large cavity to store strange golden eggs. With a bunch of small limbs it holds the eggs within it's chest.

Some tales tell of a monster that hides golden eggs throughout the night during the first full moon of Spring. Most stories say that misbehaving children that search for the golden eggs are taken by the Osterbeast to the Feywilds. Some say the beast eats any who see it as it hides the golden eggs... a version of the tale even says that instead of eating it's victims, it turns them into golden eggs.

Where do these golden eggs come from? No one knows. The Osterbeast certainly doesn't lay them and they definitely aren't Gold Dragon eggs. Few dare hold onto the small eggs found - they are quickly sold or melted down, fearing that the Osterbeast may come to claim the eggs.

-

The less mystical approaches to the reality of The Osterbeast is that it is an experiment using lycanthrope blood that got loose. It's obsession with golden eggs may be a side affect or an artifact from the origin of it's blood. Either way, it's blood is cursed and would be assumed to contagious. The beast shows clear signs of abrupt transformation, so it would be a painful process that looks ultimately irreversible.

Dark orders of Bloodhunters and even the Order of Arcane Knights of Osterath were always told to 'Fear The Oster Blood.'
